As the temperatures rise and social calendars fill up, it’s common for our exercise routines to go down the list of things to do.
Summer brings outdoor activities and social outings with friends and family that can easily distract us from our fitness goals. However, your health and well-being should always remain a top priority! To ensure you meet the minimal physical activity guidelines this summer, start scheduling your exercise, just like you would any other appointment. Treat your workout sessions as non-negotiable appointments. This will make it easier to prioritize your health amidst all of the social plans.
If you spend a lot of time at your cottage in the summer, take advantage of the longer daylight hours and weather! Move your workouts outdoors and get creative. Run in the trails, go for a swim in the lake, or bring a set of dumbbells on the porch. Your training doesn’t have to be put on pause during cottage season. In fact, regular exercise will ensure you can continue to enjoy the activities at the cottage. Such as water skiing, or beach volleyball.
Most social gatherings will consist of sitting and catching up, perhaps meeting at a coffee shop. Instead, suggest a hike or a game of pickleball for your next social gathering. You’ll enjoy the quality time together and be active while doing so! Encouraging your friends and family to join you in your fitness endeavours will make it fun, and hold everyone accountable to their fitness goals.
Summer is a time for relaxation and enjoyment, so don’t stress if your exercise routine looks a little different then other months. Be flexible and focus on staying active in ways that bring you joy. Our Kinesiologists at Longevity Nexum want to help you feel your best this summer and moving forward!
