On Sunday September 17th, Barrie will be hosting their annual Terry Fox run in support of the Terry Fox foundation. This event has become an integral part of Canadian culture, inspiring countless individuals around the world.

Who is Terry Fox?

Terry Fox was a young Canadian athlete diagnosed with bone cancer, in 1977. His leg was amputated, but he refused to let cancer define him. Inspired by the suffering of other cancer patients, he embarked on a bold mission in 1980 to run across Canada, from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific, on his prosthetic leg, raising awareness and funds for cancer research. Through his journey, also known as the “Marathon of Hope,” he ran 42 km every day, through varying weather conditions and physical pain. He faced numerous challenges, including the deterioration of his prosthetic leg and relentless pain. Terry’s run was not just a personal triumph; it became a symbol of hope for cancer patients everywhere.
