On Sunday, June 2nd our team at Longevity Nexum will be hosting an optional pre-race warm up at the Honda Waterfront Run in Barrie. We will gather participants around the stage before the run to get everyone ready for a successful run!

The event entails either a 5k, 10k, or half marathon run along Barrie’s waterfront, while supporting local charities. If you are participating in the run… congratulations on taking the exciting step of preparing for a run! Whether you’re a seasoned runner or just starting out, embarking on this journey requires not only physical training but also mental preparation.

Incorporating activities like strength training, yoga, or swimming in addition to your runs can help improve your overall fitness and reduce the risk of injury. Fuelling your body with the right nutrients and staying hydrated are also essential components of your training. For instance, making sure to replenish those electrolytes when running in the warmer weather!

To mentally prepare for the run, picture yourself crossing the finish line, feeling strong and accomplished! This can help to build your confidence and motivation going into it. Also, use positive self-talk while you are running such as “I can do this”. Positive self talk can help you get through the tough parts of the run when you may feel like giving up. Lastly, set realistic goals for yourself based on your current fitness level and training, focusing on the small wins and doing better than the day prior!

Our Kinesiologists at Longevity Nexum can’t wait to see you on race day! The pre race warm up will help to reduce your risk of injury by warming up your muscles, increasing blood flow to the body, and mobilizing the joints to set you up for a successful run. Remember, the journey to the finish line is as important as the destination—enjoy every step of the way!
