There are two hard realities: the challenge of maintaining a healthy lifestyle vs the challenge of living an unhealthy lifestyle.
Showing up for your exercise session is hard. Being out of shape to do the stairs is also hard. Eating healthy and meal prepping is hard. However, eating processed food and not being properly fuelled is hard. Going to bed early is hard, although so is not getting enough sleep.
Choose your hard?
Do you ever look at the people who are going to the gym 5-6x a week or bringing their home cooked meal into work for lunch, and think how do you have the time? Or perhaps you don’t know how they do it? Well if it was easy everyone would do it.
It takes self-discipline, and it ultimately comes down to choosing the path you wish to take. Which is either putting in the work to maintain a healthy lifestyle or putting in the work to reverse the negative impacts an unhealthy lifestyle has caused.
Healthy Lifestyle vs. Poor Health
It may not always be convenient to go to the gym and prepare your food, especially when life gets busy. But over time it pays off in terms of your physical and mental health. You’ll have more energy to play with the kids or grandkids, you’ll be able to continue to travel with your loved ones, and continue to participate in the activities you love. It can be hard in the moment, but the rewards are long-lasting!
On the other hand, an unhealthy lifestyle has its own hardships. It might seem easier in the moment – grabbing fast food, skipping workouts, staying up late. However, in the long run it can lead to weight gain, increased risk of developing chronic conditions, decrease in energy levels… the list goes on.
With that said, which hard do you want to choose? The hard that leads to growth, strength, and vitality, or the one that feels easier in the moment but will most likely hold you back in the long run?
It’s all about balance. You don’t have to be perfect… no one is! But if you choose the “healthy hard” more often than not, you’ll find it makes life’s bigger challenges a little easier to face.
