“Without the help of Longevity Nexum, I’m not sure if could have completed this hike without knee pain.” – Brenda
Our team would like to shine the light on one our dedicated client Brenda. She came to us in March 2023 with knee pain that limited her ability to play pickle ball and do other activities of daily living.
Brenda and her daughter set a goal to complete the Camino Trail from France to Satiago. They have challenged themselves to hike the full 780 km in 35 days. With this in mind, Brenda sought out our help in early spring with the hope of getting stronger and alleviating her nagging knee pain in order for her to complete hike with ease.
Brenda is a very active individual but was limited with he development of a Baker’s Cyst in one of her knees. This impacted her ability to play pickle ball pain free as it was constantly swelling after physical activity. She was determined to complete this hike and return to pickle ball.
For 6 months, our Kinesiologist Mel and Brenda got right to work. The primary focus was to start incorporating strength training into Brenda’s weekly routine two times per week. When we started to see progress, we continued to progress and incorporate more aerobic conditioning to ensure she will be able to sustain hiking 20-25 km daily during their European adventure.
Not too long into our journey, Brenda quickly started to notice her strength and condition progress and her knee pain and swelling was dissipating. She was very dedicated to her weekly sessions with Mel along with her added homework of stretches and exercises at home. Even though Brenda took a break to travel to the West Coast with her daughter, she kept up with her exercise during the trip and was eager to pick up where she left off upon her return to Ontario.
Brenda and her daughter departed for their long awaited adventure in September and completed the 780 km “Camino Frances” route on October 16th.
“It has been an amazing journey, and I am truly thankful for all of your help and encouragement that got me here. I had absolutely noises with my knees or legs on the walk” – Brenda
Since Brenda’s return, she continues to work with Longevity Nexum to maintain her strength and conditioning. She has now set out new goals to complete other routes of the Camino Trail!
Congratulations Brenda, we are so proud of your huge accomplishment and the results you have achieved within the year! Your story and dedication is an inspiration to all of us and a reminder that it is never too late to chase your goals.
