Kinesiology… or rather Kinesiologist… what exactly is it, and how can they help me?
Our team has been fortunate to be involved in numerous events, meet with various allied health practitioners, and even set up tables at stores. The more exposure we get within our community, the more we realize how little people know about Kinesiology and the ways we can help. In this blog, we want to highlight how working with a kinesiologist comes into play, specifically when it comes to injuries.
Working with a Kinesiologist
When you see a Kinesiologist for an injury, it’s important to note that diagnosing the exact problem is outside our scope of practice. This is something Physiotherapists and Chiropractors can do. However, most healthcare providers hesitate to diagnose an injury without imaging, such as x-rays, ultrasounds, MRIs, or CT scans. If imaging has already been done, our Kinesiologist can assess it and create a strategy tailored to you.
Although we cannot diagnose, our education equips us with the ability to use special tests to understand what might be happening in the affected joint or area. At Longevity Nexum, our initial appointment includes a comprehensive physical assessment. We conduct special tests, check ranges of motion, perform neuromuscular testing, and strength testing to gather the information we need.
Buffer Zone
Now, let’s discuss the ‘buffer zone’ you should aim for in your rehabilitation from an injury. Our Kinesiologists at Longevity Nexum are always striving to create this buffer zone.
When you sustain an injury and experience pain, the first goal is to reduce that pain. This can be approached in several ways, depending on the injury and the individual. Our Kinesiologists have experience with shoulder pain, knee pain, lower back pain, and more.
Once you notice a reduction or elimination of pain, you might think you’re good to go. However, stopping here increases the likelihood of re-injury unless you create a solid buffer zone. This buffer zone varies depending on the individual, the injury, daily activities, occupation, and more. That’s why our Kinesiologists are keen to understand your day-to-day life fully. We don’t just want you to be pain-free; we want you to feel stronger and fearless in doing the things you love! Working with a Kinesiologist will not only reduce your pain, but keep your life thriving!
