Longevity Nexum, Barrie Ontario is a private Kinesiology exercise studio where our Kinesiologist provide the gift of Longevity to each and every client through completely personalize exercise geared toward their unique needs and goals.
This week is Kinesiology week so we are turning the spotlight over to our staff to describe what being Kinesiologist means to them! Our Kinesiologist Mel, is the clinic manager and has been with Longevity Nexum for almost 2 years. In this blog she will discuss her experience as a Kin and how much her career at Longevity Nexum has not only enhanced her life but the life of many.
As a Kinesiologist, having an opportunity to utilize each and every skill learned throughout our education to enhance and change people’s with 1 on 1 sessions has been a privilege. I often find myself reflecting on the profound impact that movement and physical activity can have on people’s lives. My experience in this field is not just a career; it’s a calling to help others rediscover the joy of movement and reclaim their lives from the obstacles of pain, age, and limitations. Every day, I witness the power of exercise, and it fills me with immense pride and purpose.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is guiding individuals to success when they have lost hope. I have a client who came to us with chronic pain that had persisted for years. She had come to terms with herself to a life of discomfort, believing that her pain and inability to cycle or hike was a permanent part of the remainder of her life. As we began to work with her using the principle of progressive overload to enhance her strength and improve her confidence, week by week, her strength and mobility and chronic pain improved. The day she told me she was able to perform 30 minutes of cardio on her treadmill without pain the following day was a triumph.
Exercise is often acknowledged as a key to longevity – but what does longevity truly mean? For me, it’s not just about adding years to life but about adding life to years. I work with many older adults who come to me feeling that their best days are behind them. At Longevity Nexum, Barrie Ontario, with constant weekly effort with our clients, we combine individualized strength training, mobility exercises, and cardiovascular conditioning programming to help them regain vitality and independence. Watching someone in their seventies deadlifting more than their body weight and being able to maintain the same course of activities as they once loved is incredibly fulfilling. Our 1 on 1 private sessions with a Kinesiologist are not just routine workouts; they are giving the life of longevity by enhancing health span and allowing people to enjoy the final years of life.
Despite the growing recognition of Kinesiology, there are still misconceptions about what we do. Some see it as merely physical therapy or exercise instruction, but it’s so much more. Kinesiology is about understanding the relationships between constant movement, health, and quality of life. It’s about using scientific principles to create personalized strategies that address each individual’s unique needs. I am passionate about being part of the change in how kinesiology is perceived, advocating for its role in preventative health care and its potential to revolutionize how we approach physical well-being.
At the heart of my work is a commitment to increasing health span—the period of life spent in good health, free from chronic diseases and debilitating conditions. This is where kinesiology truly shines. By promoting regular, structured physical activity and educating people on the importance of movement, I help them not only add years to their life but ensure those years are lived actively and joyfully. It’s about empowering people to take control of their health and providing them with the tools and knowledge to do so.
Being a kinesiologist is more than a job, it’s a mission to transform lives and I am so happy to be a part of this narrative at Longevity Nexum. If you or anyone you know wants to take control of their life through working with a Kinesiologist, give us
