Today,  Longevity Nexum Barrie Ontario, is spotlighting one of our clients who has recently been diagnosed with MS and has achieved amazing results through regular exercise with our Kinesiologist.

On Sunday, May 26th, the MS community of Barrie will host a 5km MS walk at Heritage Park at 10 am. Members of the MS community and people of Barrie gather on this day to raise funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis, bringing together those living with MS. In the spirit of the upcoming event, which we will be attending in support of the MS community, we wanted to shine a spotlight on our very own client to highlight some extraordinary progress she has made over the last year. This week marks 1 year of Stephanie with Longevity Nexum. In this blog, we will dive into the progress she has achieved through working with our Kinesiologist, why it’s important to exercise with MS, and her experience with Longevity Nexum.

Multiple sclerosis is a chronic autoimmune disease of the central nervous system. Since that includes the brain, spinal cord and optic nerve, MS can affect vision, memory, balance and mobility. It is considered an episodic disability meaning that the severity and duration of illness and disability can vary and are often followed by periods of wellness. It can also be progressive.

According to research, Canada has the highest rate of MS diagnosis in the world. On average, 1 in 400 people are diagnosed with MS, which means that around 12 people per day. Among these individuals diagnosed with MS, 75% are females.

Client Success Story – Steph

Steph’s Progression

What were Steph’s goals when you started with Longevity Nexum?

” My initial reason to go to Longevity was to improve my frozen shoulder, my knee pain and help with my mobility, living with MS.  I very quickly realized I needed to go because I mentally thought I was disabled, and I was going to disappoint my kids.  My goals then developed to become stronger so I could handle the unpredictable challenges of living with MS working full time with two young children..”

How has Longevity Nexum helped Steph?

“I’m more positive, I’m strong, I can play with my kids and my MS symptoms have not gotten worse in over a year.  I now live an active lifestyle and I’m proud of myself.”

Why is it important for Steph and other people with Multiple Sclerosis to exercise?

As there is currently no cure for MS, some symptoms can be very mentally and physically draining for most people, which may be discouraging for some to exercise. Despite this, performing regular exercise can help manage symptoms caused by multiple sclerosis, including fatigue, balance, and mood. Due to the progressive nature of the disease that attacks the nervous system, regular exercise such as resistance training and aerobic physical activity can contribute to increasing muscle strength, ensuring slow progression of the degenerative disease, helping maintain better balance, mobility, and activity levels, lowering the risk of heart disease, managing weight, and keeping the body functioning at its best.
