The Link Between Exercise and Sleep Quality: A Lifeline for Tired Parents
In this blog we are going to dive into the symbiotic relationship between sleep and exercise. As a parent, the weight of responsibilities can feel relentless—getting the kids ready, working long hours, and somehow holding everything together. Yet, when it’s finally time to rest, sleep doesn’t come easy. Your mind races, your body feels wired, and the few hours of sleep you manage to get feel inadequate. But what if there’s a way to break the cycle? Exercise might be the lifeline you’ve been missing.
Studies show that regular physical activity can dramatically improve sleep quality. It’s not just about tiring yourself out—exercise helps regulate your body’s internal clock, reduces stress, and triggers the release of hormones like serotonin that promote better rest. Even just 20-30 minutes of moderate exercise a day can make a real difference.
Imagine waking up feeling refreshed, not from eight perfect hours (because let’s be real, who gets that?), but because your body and mind finally sync up. Even when your plate is full, prioritizing your own self-care through movement can give you the energy and mental clarity to keep going—for your work, your family, and for yourself.
Relationship Between Sleep and Exercise
Look, if you were to ask people how their sleep is, most people would say they struggle with it. The more people who struggle with it makes it almost feel normal. Let us remind you – it is not the norm and nor should it be!
Sleep is high on the list of things that are important for your body. This is when our body rejuvenates from the inside out from whatever has happened the day prior. But above sleep, there is exercise. Sleep and exercise have this beautiful symbiotic relationship where if one thing is thriving, the other will be as well. On the other hand, if one starts to drop off, the other tends to as well. So, what can we do about it?
What We Can Control: Comparing exercise and sleep
Unfortunately, we do not have the control of how much sleep we get. Yes, there are things we can do to improve our sleep, but at the end of the day, we don’t have the full control. It would be much easier if we could punch into our body a timer and set it to 8 hours and asleep we go. That would be great! But that is not the reality.
We do have the control of how much we exercise. And as mentioned before, there is that beautiful symbiotic relationship between the two. You have the control of whether you exercise or you don’t and the science will follow whatever decision you choose to make. Working with one of our Kinesiologists at Longevity Nexum will guarantee that you get the benefits of exercise.
