Do you or someone you know have a fear of falling?

Perhaps you’ve had bad fall or know someone who has fallen and was negatively impacted. As we age our risk of falling increases, and so does our fear of falling again. But don’t let the fear of falling prevent you from being active, as inactivity can lead to an even greater risk of falling!

Falls can result in chronic pain, reduced mobility, and loss of independence. The good news is that falls are preventable and everyone should take action to reduce their risk of falling, no matter what your age is!

It’s important to acknowledge that feeling scared after a fall is a normal response. But I want to reassure you that there are things you can do to help yourself feel more secure, regain control, and reduce the risk of falling in the future.

Fall Prevention

The first step is to understand what is causing them? Is it poor balance, decreased muscle and bone strength, or unsafe conditions in and around your home?

When you address these areas you will feel more confident when your balance is challenged. Specifically, strengthening your lower limbs and improving your core stability. In addition, removing obstacles in the home such as loose cords, using non-slip mats where appropriate, and having good lightening to see your surroundings. In fact, exercise and fall prevention protocols combined are shown to reduce the risk of falls by approximately 40%.

At Longevity Nexum we help our clients improve their balance and stability through exercise. We gradually progress the balance exercises over time as one’s balance improves. When you realize what you are capable of doing physically as you get stronger, the fear will diminish!
