This past year has truly been the most incredible and memorable year of my life. Welcoming our first child was the life experience my husband and I had been waiting for. Our daughter Tessa arrived on October 21st, 2024 — one week overdue! To all the mamas reading this, once you pass your due date and you’re still bumping, you’ll do anything to get that baby earth side. Once she came along, everything changed in the best way possible. This blog is for all the parents who entered parenthood for the first time not knowing the physical and mental challenges that would come. Reflecting on My First Time Mom Lesson
During my year off, I did a lot of reflecting on what this new life would bring — endless joy, yes, but also many challenges. The greatest first time mom lesson I learned is how grateful I am for prioritizing exercise and my health before and during pregnancy.
Birth is the most physically demanding event anyone will ever experience. As a kinesiologist, I’ve always encouraged proper rest and recovery after major physical events so the body can heal effectively. But in parenthood, rest doesn’t come easily — the physical demands continue and even increase as your child grows.
Exercise: The Foundation of My Recovery
Looking back, I realize how much my husband and I have been able to provide for our daughter because of our physical health. Exercise truly is the best form of medicine. As kinesiologists, we can’t emphasize enough how movement transforms lives — it allows people to live the life they dream of.

Returning to Work Stronger
One year off work was both challenging and rewarding. Even though I’m no longer the same person I was before becoming a mom, exercise helped me overcome the physical and mental challenges of parenthood. It gave me the strength and energy to return to work feeling capable and confident.
