Ever hear your grandparent say “I’m too old for that,” or “I can’t be doing that at my age.” Why does life have to slow down once you reach 70 or 80?

If you asked your grandparent what they would like to be doing 10 to 20 years from now what would they say? For instance, some of our clients at Longevity Nexum want to be able to ski on their 80th birthday with their grandchildren, or take their grandchildren to Disney in their 70’s. If your grandparent has a similar dream, or certain activities they would like to be doing with their loved ones, we want to help them!

How Exercise Can Help Your Grandparent

Incorporating regular exercise results in stronger bones, improved balance, increased energy levels, fall prevention, and a stronger heart. Improving these areas of one’s health ensures your loved ones can participate in ADL’s as they age. It will give them the confidence when their balance is challenged, or when they have to chase after the grandchildren.

On the contrary, an inactive lifestyle as one ages can lead to a decrease in muscle mass, a higher risk of falling, and their loss of independence. This loss of independence can become very isolating. Especially around the holidays/family events if your loved ones cannot participate in the festivities.

With that said, give your grandparents the gift of longevity this Christmas! Help kickstart their fitness journey, because it’s never too late to start exercising. We help people of all ages here at Longevity Nexum by individualizing their exercise program based on their current health status and future goals! We work on functional exercises that translate into activities of daily living such as getting in and out of a chair, on and off the floor, reaching for objects overhead, or carrying the groceries into the house.
