Do you find yourself without a clear why or motivation in the gym? If so, it’s time to shift your focus!

It’s easy to fall into a routine where the “why” behind what you’re doing gets lost, but having a purpose can completely transform how you approach your training.

Think About Your Why

Think about what’s important to you- such as picking your grandchildren off the ground and lifting them over your head. Or perhaps you want to travel to Europe in your retirement with your husband, which requires lots of walking. These activities require strength, mobility, and stability. When you make this correlation, it gives your workouts a sense of direction and makes each session more meaningful!

The exercises you do then become more functional, and directly correlate to activities that you do outside of the gym. For instance, when you pick up that 20 pound medicine ball off the floor and press it overhead, think about your grandchild that wants to be held. Who then giggles when you lift them over your head. Keeping this at the forefront of your mind will not only giving you the motivation to continue, but it will give you and understanding of why your doing it.

Next time you’re wanting to skip your cardio, think about the walking required when you travel to Europe. What you would like to see and do? Strengthening your heart and being properly conditioned to walk 15,000-20,000 steps a day will be critical. That’s why thinking of your “why” is so important. It gives you a reason to keep going and never give up!

At Longevity Nexum, we want to understand what your “why” is, then create an individualized exercise plan that reflects it. We want to help you continue to do the things you love for as long as possible, or activities you never thought you could!
